[Been there, done that]

Summer @ Water Street We’re scheduled to go right through the summer.
Mark your calendar for second Wednesdays,
July 9, August 13 and September 10, all at 6:30.

June @ Water Street

Bob Moore, Bob Demaree & Dudley Laufman
June 11 Let’s skip the hyperbole and just say that Poetry @ Water Street
has been better and better each month and thus June will be the best reading ever.
Bob Moore, Bob Demaree and Dudley Laufman will be our featured readers.
And you will bring a poem to share at the Open Mike. What could be better?

May @ Water Street

May 14 Trina Daigle & CS Leaf will read on the 14th.
The evening will attempt to fill the air with poetry so rich that it will travel like the North Wind,
find Pat Parnell and sweep her from her bed, back into the world of poetry.
What is poetry for if not to rejuvenate our bodies and souls!

Bring a poem and a friend for the open mike.

April @ Water Street
April 9 Featured Readers John Perrault, Charlie Pratt and Jeff Volk raised the bar.
Charlie began with "Stone Wall in the Woods" and poems from his new book.
John followed, reading first a poem called “Stone Walls.” We avoided fisticuffs
by explaining that at least in New Hampshire there are enough stone walls to go around.
Jeff Volk changed the mood with peripatetic poetry that surprised and pleased.
We concluded with an open mike.

April @ Water Street
April 9
I don't want to cast aspersions on my predictions, but we're still on an upward curve, better and better each month.
Stay tuned. Better & better ain't just a threat. It's a promise!

Can anything be better than “The Best Poetry Reading Ever”? We’re going to try.
John Perrault, Charlie Pratt and Jeff Volk are the featured readers.
And then the open mike, for you and your friends.

Laura Messner, EHS ’08, won the Poetry Out Loud State Competition in Keene
and will represent New Hampshire in Washington, D.C. April 28 & 29!

March @ Water Street
March 12
What wonderful people. What wonderful poems. What a wonderful time.
Poetry @ Water Street was, as predicted, “The Best Poetry Reading Ever!”

Laura Messner, EHS ’08, recited the three poems she will use at
the Poetry Out Loud State Competition in Keene on March 22nd.

And then a dozen PGNH poets read and I felt as if I had never heard poems before.
Everything came alive. The magic of the spoken word flooded
The Water Street Bookstore with visions of New Hampshire. Well, I suppose it’s always been easier to write good poetry about New Hampshire!

Exeter High School Senior Laura Messner, Poetry Out Loud State Champion in 2007, is going to the state competition in Keene March 22nd to attempt a repeat of her last year’s victory. Laura will share with us her award winning recitation of "Bent to the Earth," by Blas Manuel de Luna.

Zach Galloway
Mark DeCarteret
Jim Rioux
Harvey Shepard

Like the mail person, poets are undaunted by fowl weather. On an evening more suited to chickens, a brave group gathered at The Water Street Bookstore and shared poems.

Zach Galloway, Exeter High ’07, charmed the crowd with heartfelt poetry and exuberance. Jim Rioux, Harvey Shepard and Mark DeCarteret provided more of the same. Four excellent poets with excellent poems.

Neil English
Maren Tirabassi
Gordan Lang

Gordon Lang has always said that if Maren Tirabassi and Neil English were reading in a closet, he would come to hear them. Last night, his dream came true. The Water Street Bookstore is being renovated. The space they carved out for us was, well, bigger than some closets – and it fit perfectly. Except, I had to send Maren home to change because her outfit clashed with the new paint!

Gordon, Neil & Maren were, as always, wonderful. And all this bodes well for February 13th, when Mark DeCarteret, Jim Rioux and Harvey Shepard will be our featured readers.

Gordon reminded us that there will be a The 2008 Poets’ Guide to New Hampshire reading in Wolfeboro on January 29th, prompting me to remind you of the PGNH reading in Exeter on March 12th. Each reading has an impressive rhyme of poets, and each would like you to read, too!
